Without question, the best way to learn about Algoma is to visit. So, we’ve made getting here as simple as possible – all you have to do is pick a date and hop on board.

Get on the bus

The Algoma tour bus is the most fun and affordable way to visit campus. For ONLY $25 you get a seat on a luxury coach ride from Toronto to the University AND two nights in a hotel AND meals on campus.

Your adventure will be hosted by Algoma’s admissions advisors. Along the way, they’ll fill you in on life at Algoma, answer your questions, as well as point out some of the amazing landmarks between Toronto and Sault Ste. Marie. All you need to do is register for one of our fall or spring trips* and then sit back and enjoy the ride to your future.

* All trips depart and return to Toronto. Stops will be made at other locations along the route to accommodate students.

When do Algoma University bus tours take place?

Algoma offers two bus tours in November and one in March. Our first tour, Sunday, November 7 – Tuesday, November 9, is scheduled to coincide with our Fall Preview event. The second tour is Friday, November 19 – Sunday, November 21. The March Break bus tour, our last of the school year, is Monday, March 12 – Wednesday, March 14.

All tours are scheduled to depart from and return to Toronto.

How much do Algoma University bus tours cost?

The bus tour fee is $25 per person.

What is included in the $25 bus tour fee?

Algoma University will provide round-trip transportation on a chartered coach bus, hotel accommodation for two nights in Sault Ste. Marie, and meals while in Sault Ste. Marie, as well as any entertainment expenses that are part of the bus tour itinerary.

What can I expect to do on an Algoma University bus tour?

This is your chance to get the answers to all of the detailed questions you have about academics and student life. During your visit, you will meet Algoma University faculty, staff and students; we will do our best to connect you with a professor and students from your preferred program of study.

Tour the campus. Your campus tour will include all of the areas you’ll be spending time in as a student, including the library, SpeakEasy, George Leach Centre, and classrooms. You will also get to check out the dorms and townhouses to see which residence option suits you best.

City tour. Sault Ste. Marie is a beautiful city, and we’ll help you explore it. Our one-hour guided tour of the city includes historic sites, recreational centres, and student hangouts.

Have fun. Our team will plan a variety of social activities to make your bus tour memorable. Some previous tour activities include downhill skiing, attended an Algoma basketball game, curling lessons, movies, and tobogganing.

Where does the bus pick up passengers?

The bus departs from Toronto with pickups along the Trans-Canada Highway between Toronto and Sault Ste. Marie. In the past, we have picked passengers up in Barrie, Parry Sound, Sudbury and Espanola. Is there a cancellation policy?

Bus passengers who cancel 48 hours prior to departure will receive a full refund.

Can parents or adults come or is the bus tour just for students?

Parents and other adults are welcome to participate in the bus tour, and many do, so don’t be afraid to bring yours!

What kind of supervision is there on the bus?

Algoma University staff members will host the bus tour. Before departing, you will receive an email with the staff members’ names and cell phone numbers in case you need to get a hold of them during the trip.

Any student wishing to visit campus during the school year will have the unique opportunity of meeting students and faculty, as well as experiencing our campus community. Why should I visit Algoma University?

Visiting campus is the best way to find out if Algoma is the right fit for you.  This is your opportunity to meet faculty, check out residence and tour campus; there is no better way to get to know Algoma than to experience it in person.

When is the best time to schedule a campus tour?

Tours are available any time of the year.  However, we recommend that you visit between September and March while classes are in session; this will allow you to meet with faculty and sit in on a class while you are on campus.  Our staff is available Monday to Friday, as well as weekends, to tour you and your family.

What travel costs are covered by Algoma University?

Algoma University covers the cost of accommodations for two nights in Sault Ste. Marie, as well as providing a travel stipend to subsidize your travel to the “Soo”.  In addition to paying for your hotel, Algoma will give you up to $250 towards your bus ticket or airfare.

How do I get to Sault Ste. Marie?

Situated on the Trans-Canada Highway approximately 700 km north of Toronto, Sault Ste. Marie is easily accessible by automobile, bus or plane. Greyhound Bus Lines provide daily service from Toronto and Thunder Bay, and both Air Canada and Porter Airlines have several flights daily.
