Why Algoma? I wanted to try something different. Sault Ste. Marie was far from what I was used to being from a small town in Southern Ontario. Algoma offered a fantastic program with a supportive staff that took the effort to get to know me.

Why Algoma? I started at a larger school in Southern Ontario, but quickly realized it wasn’t the best learning environment for me.  From my first day of classes at Algoma, I knew it was a totally different experience.

Favourite student question: When students ask me about life outside the classroom at Algoma University I get really excited.

Why visit Algoma? You have to visit the campus to understand the unique environment.  Reading about it on the website does not do it justice.

Why Algoma?  I chose Algoma for the personal, face-to-face learning it provides, as well as the community-centered atmosphere on campus.

Favourite student question:  I like when students ask me about scholarships because we offer one of the most generous scholarship programs in the province.

Why visit Algoma?  Because you’ve got to be here to truly understand the amazing sense of community and opportunities available.

Why Algoma? Algoma will help you grow as an individual. The sense of community is wonderful; you feel like you have a support system behind you in class, clubs and sports. The small class sizes allow you to form great relationships with students and professors that will last long after you graduate.

Why visit Algoma? Algoma University has a rich history and beautiful, intimate campus.

Why Algoma? People at Algoma actually cared about what I had to say. This, coupled with small classes, gave me the courage to say more, to take risks, and, ultimately, to find my voice.

Favourite student question: “Can I have a toaster in my dorm?” (No, but you can bring in a microwave and a small fridge.)

Why visit Algoma? There are a lot of Anishinaabe cultural events happening on campus; hopefully you can come for a visit and participate in one.

Why Algoma?  I moved here from B.C. after attending Vancouver Island University.  I loved the smaller classes and knowing that my professors were interested in my writing and success.

Favourite student question: I keep all of my student questions in the “circle of trust.”

Why visit Algoma?  You should visit every school that you are strongly considering.  There is no other way to really get a sense of how that campus will feel to you, and it’s very important to be comfortable at your university.

Why Algoma?  As a truly small university, Algoma provides a unique experience. It is located so close to Lake Superior, and it offers some great skiing and mountain biking.

Favourite Student Question:  “What is there to do in Sault Ste. Marie?”  I love the area and everything it has to offer. It’s awesome getting students excited about the experiences they’ll have living here.

Why visit Algoma? It’s the best way to know for sure if it’s the right choice for you; as soon as you set foot on our campus you’ll know. The bus trips are super fun, definitely the best way to check out the university.
